A dissatisfied with life nobody suddenly finds himself embroiled in a world of top notch assassins with amazing powers, training him to take his fathers place.

The beginning of the movie is very much like Fight Club. Which is to say, Wesley Gibson is a cubicle jockey who’s tired of his life and his overbearing boss, the girlfriend that’s cheating on him with his best friend, and how utterly insignifigant he himself is. And then one day, buying meds for his stress, he meets and is subsequently saved by the gorgeous Fox, played by Angelina Jolie, from a gun-wielding assassin who shoots around corners with amazing accuracy. The movie ramps right up from there, taking Wesley into a world of highly trained professional assassins called The Fraternity, led by the redoubtable Sloan (Morgan Freeman). And after only one afternoon with them, Wesley returns to his normal life to find himself 3 million dollars richer from transferring his fathers assets to him, and proceeds to quit his job and his old life in the most amusingly violent way possible. From there he dives into assassin training, determined to hunt down the man The Fraternity told him killed his father, and deliver vengeance. Little does he know, even assassin training doesn’t guarantee the whole truth.

James McAvoy does a fine job with the nobody turned killer aspect, once again very similar to Edward Norton in Fight Club. Angelina Jolie is, as always, astoundingly sexy, whether she’s riding a subway in an insane game of capture the flag, or showing off the staggering amount of bodily tattoos as she sashays away. Morgan Freeman is always a good time, although the character they gave him for this movie is a bit…flat. Unimpressed by everything.

Yes, all the actions scenes are way over the top. It’s a movie about assassins with supernatural powers, we kind of expect that. So learn to laugh and cheer at it!
