Based on a true story, a family ends up relocating to a new house due to their eldest sons health, only to discover that the place is a former mortuary and haunted to boot.

This is actually a fantastic movie, a lot better than I thought it would be. Similar in style and scope to The Amityville Horror, The Haunting in Connecticut has a verve and pace that promises a righteous scare and delivers almost every time. There is only one predictable moment in the entire movie, towards the end of course, and for a modern horror flick, that’s damn good. Things start off understandably depressed, with eldest son Matt Campbell suffering from cancer and radiation treatments, and how it affects each member of the family in turn. Mom worries, dad drinks and works his butt off, and the siblings and cousins, they endure. But when Mom finds a house closer to where Matt receives his experimental treatments, even despite it’s rather unnerving past, the family is moved in in short order, and then the troubles get worse.

Rather than give away the secret of why the former mortuary is haunted, I will highly recommend you go see this movie. The explanations begin early and are quite easily understood, even if you’re not a student of the occult. Tensions build in every scene and when the scare comes, the film experience is heightened rather than going for a cheap scream. Who needs excess blood and gore when you have a few dozen extremely vengeful ghosts!

If you’re a horror fan, and a plot fan for that matter, you will get a great kick out of The Haunting in Conneticut!
