Tristan Thorne is chasing a star that fell to earth to give to his beloved Victoria, over the wall that separates his village from another world of faeries and magics both great and terrible.

Based on a book by the wonderful Neil Gaiman, Stardust is a fantasy adventure fraught with intrigue and delight. Tristan Thorne, in the foolishness of all young men who have their heart set on entirely the wrong girl, sets his heart by Victoria, who has no intention of marrying him or even carrying on a dalliance. So she sets him a challenge: bring me that fallen star, that fell on the other side of the wall that separates the village from the unknown, or in ten days time she’ll marry Tristan’s rival for her affections. Oh sure, that’s easy enough for a young man of Tristan’s fortitude, we’ll just nip over there and grab the rock and be back right? Well.

It turns out the fallen star is a young woman, played by Claire Danes. And other people, dangerous and magical people, are hunting the star as well. Michelle Pfieffer plays a witch determined to catch the star and share her heart with her two sisters, which will restore their youth and beauty. And let us not forget the Lords of Stormhold, both the alive and the dead ones, whose story intersects with Tristan’s in the most interesting ways. Robert De Niro stars Captain Shakespeare, who saves Tristan and the star and has a penchant for the overly dramatic. (Yes, you heard me right, Robert De Niro in a pink dress, I kid you not.)

All in all, with a fine cast and a fabulous story, Stardust is not a movie to miss!
