Bird Box is a Netflix movie based on the book by the same name, Bird Box by Josh Malerman. The film is a movie about a monster who comes into our world and takes over peoples souls and will show you your darkest fears and it makes you crazy and then want to commit suicide. The movie screenplay is written by Eric Heisserer.

It starts out with Malorie (Sandra Bullock) and her sister Jessica, (Sarah Paulson) at their doctors appointment because they are both pregnant. When Jessica goes to get their car she becomes infected by the monster and ends up almost killing them both, but instead purposefully offs herself.

The monster or virus, or whatever you want to call it, eventually spreads to the whole world and a handful of survivors end up at a house where they try to help each other. Malorie, along with another lady, Olympia (Danielle Macdonald) end up having their babies there.

There are not multiple plots going on in this movie, which a lot of people think that there is, but yet multiple timelines. One timeline is them in the house, the other timeline is Malorie and the two children to make it to the compound that you will eventually find out about throughout the movie.

Malorie carries birds with her throughout the movie. The birds help warn her when there is danger nearby or when the monster of evil shows up within her proximity. The birds that is in a Bird Box throughout most of the movie, are finally released at the end of the movie with other birds that are in the compound to show gratitude for helping them out.

The acting is excellent, and it was well directed (director Susanne Bier). Sandra Bullock is amazing in this movie, and she uses her talent to show the emotions of Malorie very well. She ends up falling in love with Tom (Trevante Rhodes), who helps her prepare to travel down to find this compound of the remaining survivors.

I thought that the plot is decent. It kind of reminds me of the movie Cloverfield, and actually, this movie has the resemblance of other movies in it. Movies such as I Am Legend, and others, pretty much any end of the world post-apocalyptic movie. It has some very well-known actors in it such as John Malkovich, Machine Gun Kelley, and BD Wong, just to name a few.

The soundtrack is composed by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, who also scored movies like Social Network, Death Note, and The Book Of Eli, and Atticus Ross. They are both known in the music world before they became movie composers. I personally am a fan of Nine Inch Nails, so I usually end up enjoying almost all music he has ever done.

Steven King even said he liked the movie in a tweet, he stated “I was absolutely riveted by BIRD BOX (Netflix). Don’t believe the lukewarm reviews, which may in part have been caused by reviewers’ ambivalence to the streaming platform, as opposed to theatrical releases.”

I believe that this is not really that scary of a movie. I mean, the film sometimes has It-style moments, but is not as terrifying as most people make it out to be. I think that it should be given a chance, considering there hasn’t been a movie like this released in a while. I give this movie 3.5 out of 5 with 45 million Netflix subscribers watched it during the first 7 days of it being released. I am glad I watched this movie, and I hope you enjoyed the review.
