This film is a remake of the original movie of the same name. All things considered, this is not a bad remake either, however I think the original is still about 90% better than this one. This version of the film starts off the same way as the original, with medical students trying to find out if there is any life after death, and that starts them on an adventure they will never forget.

Kiefer Sutherland is in this movie, and he plays the witty professor that gets the students to listen to him because they are thinking about the experiments that they have done the previous nights. Kiefer Sutherland was also in the original movie but played a different character. I think he played his part very well. It is weird that he is playing someone other than his original role, Dr. Barry Wolfson. I do think that he should have continued his original role, they could have made it work somehow.

I think this movie could have been so much better if they tried to keep it on the same lines as the original. Which means, obviously, this 2017 version of Flatliners rather deviates from the original storylines. This new storyline was pretty decent, but could have used more development. The movie is fast paced and it seems like it needs to slow down a bit to find out what is going on.

The original movie, which was directed by Joel Schumacher, and was originally written by Peter Filardi, you would have thought that the movies would have been more close together. There were some similarities but not enough to call it a true sequel. I do hope someone tries to pick this up and either remakes it again, proper to the original, or has an idea for a true sequel. It seems like they want to do it properly, but just did not know which direction to take it.

The movie has a couple of plots going on about it, so do not walk away from it while watching. The film will have a good message to the audience, but there are scenes in the movie that are obviously unnecessary. Overall I think that the movie has potential, and since it made double the budget that it originally had been given, 19 million, I am sure there is going to be a sequel in the works. I think that this screenplay could have been written more along the lines of the original. I am hoping if they do a sequel it will go back to its roots. I will be watching it if there is one.

Try the new Flatliners and see if there is life after sequel death!
