A prequel to the largely popular video game Dead Space, where the enemy invades the USG Ishimura ship, and goes on a killing rampage.
Apparently there are a lot more details to the video game that I wasn’t aware of, since it wasn’t in the movie. I write from the movie-watcher point of view, but hey, extra details is always nice.
So we have the USG Ishimura, a mining ship brought to some alien world where they’re going to mine for minerals, fairly straight forward right? And of course they discover something they refer to as the Artifact, which the religious nut-jobs called Unitologists want very badly to take a look at, as the Artifact apparently factors highly into their religion. After a few strange incidents on the planet below, then on the transfer ship to the Ishimura, and then on the big mining ship itself, it’s pretty clear that the world is going right to hell and there’s very little that anyone can do to stop it. Mutant zombies and alien takeovers and a lot of slaughter and blood-spray.
The plots more or less okay. At least there is a continuous plot, that’s leaps over a lot of video-game-based movies. This movie was supposed to be the first major adult horror cartoon romp, and while there is certainly plenty of blood-spray and horrible mutating aliens, I have one major problem. Most of the scenes that they gamely tried to do in a fairly standard cartoon style, frankly would look much better and be more believable as a (get ready for it) video game, or even a movie. Choosing to make this movie as a cartoon, rather than a CG style show or even a mini-series live action somehow, was a big mistake, they just don’t have the capability of doing it right yet. However, that’s not to say they shouldn’t keep trying.
Most rabid fans of the video game will likely happily devour the cartoon movie right up!
