Doom Annihilation is closest to the video game then the original movie DOOM that was released in 2005. Other than couple of corny jokes, this new film was a decent representation of the game. It starts off with a research facility trying to figure out what’s behind the science experiment that they have discovered on Earth, and on the moon they were on, Phobos.

The action is pretty good, and even a few mentions from the game, such as “BFG” which stands for Big F*cking Gun. The BFG helps obviously destroy bigger entities that the UAC (United Aerospace Corporation) has to deal with.  Everyone that is involved with the scientists, turns on the UAC.

The movie is directed and written by Tony Giglio. He has directed movies such as the Death Race sequels, and a couple of other movies I had never heard of. I do think the Death Race movies were decent, and would like to see a sequel similar to the first one again.

This new Doom movie got 3.5 out of 10 on IMDB’s grade system. I thought it was a little bit better than that, but that is just because I thought it was better than the 2005 version, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak.  I think that if they had hired better actors, that the movie could have done a lot better than it did. The film is a straight-to-video release, and wasn’t really advertised at all that I could tell.

I would like to see a sequel, to see what happens after the end of this movie. The director could continue the tradition of working off the story behind the video game.  The soundtrack was okay, the editing was decent. If you want a decent video-game-to-movie conversion give it a watch. Doom: Annihilation is out on Netflix now!
