So Jigsaw, that fiendish mastermind, is dead. But his legacy lives on in a most gripping and bloody way, as the FBI discovers trying to work their way through Jigsaw’s latest massacre.

It’s hard to believe that the movie people managed to have yet another Saw movie when Jigsaw himself is dead. The movie even starts off with John Kramer’s autopsy, but it kind of has to, given what the coroners find in his stomach—a micro cassette tape. Thus begins yet another chase around the city from all sorts of officials and police. But you have to wonder, if Jigsaw and Amanda are both dead, who’s setting up the traps and tests this time? After all, Jigsaw had more than one disciple. So a good portion of the movie is spent guessing, who’s killing people who fail to learn their lessons now?

The rest of the movie is divided between scenes with the last surviving original cast member, Policeman Rigg, who’s determined to save Eric Matthews, despite him being missing for six months; and scenes from John Kramer and his wife Jill’s past, explanations that led to what turned Kramer into Jigsaw.

There are a lot of little things that make up the big picture explanation of what led to Jigsaw, if you pay close attention and probably watch the movie more than once. The Pig masks on Chinese New Year during the year of the Pig, the name Gideon, the Harlequin doll. And that’s only a few of the subtle layers that make up yet another fine movie romp from the Saw people.

You may not agree with Jigsaw’s methods, but his motives, after watching this movie, are hard to refute. And that alone makes watching this movie worthwhile!
